The following instructions will guide you through the CSR generation process on Nginx (OpenSSL). To learn more about CSRs and the importance of your private key, reference our Overview of Certificate Signing Request article. If you already generated the CSR and received your trusted SSL certificate, reference our SSL Installation Instructions and disregard the steps below.
When you generated that CSR you would have been asked by the server to save two files—for OpenSSL, you can run the command openssl version –a to find the folder where your key files would be saved (/usr/local/ssl by default). On Windows (IIS), the OS manages your CSRs for you. In the right Actions menu, click Create Certificate Request. Enter your CSR details. In the Distinguished Name Properties window, enter in the required CSR details and then click Next. Note: To avoid common mistakes when filling out your CSR details, reference our Overview of Certificate Signing Request article.
A certificate signing request (CSR) is one of the first steps towards getting your own SSL Certificate. Generated on the same server you plan to install the certificate on, the CSR contains information (e.g. Common name, organization, country) the Certificate Authority (CA) will use to create your certificate. Jul 09, 2019 The private key gets generated along with your Certificate Signing Request (CSR). The CSR is submitted to the certificate authority right after you activate your certificate, while the private key must be kept safe and secret on your server or device.
Now generate CSR file using the key file we generated in the above step. Shell root@kerneltalks # openssl req -new -key kerneltalks.com.key -out kerneltalks.comcsr -sha256 Enter pass phrase for kerneltalks.com.key: You are about to be asked to enter information that will be incorporated into your certificate request. Nevertheless, you may generate a Certificate Signing Request code yourself (e.g. If you manage the hosting server on your own or if this is the best option for your server type/hosting plan). In this case, select your web server from the list below and follow the instructions.
